Jeremy: In Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels, there exists a goddess known only as The Lady. She is, in fact, Lady Luck. But the Lady's favor is fickle: She only grants her blessings to those who never invoke her name. She finds it amusing to help those who muddle through life never daring to contemplate their luck—but never consistently or predictably. And when someone calls upon her for help by name, she turns her back on them, leaving them to their own wretched devices.

I'm not sure why I mentioned that. Anyway, we recorded this episode of Retronauts a couple of weeks ago, and in doing so lamented the fact that the first game in the Ys series (Ys: Ancient Ys Vanished) is so hard to come by these days outside of Steam remakes, and that the most recent entry in the series (Ys X: Nordics) hasn't yet been announced for U.S. release. In the two weeks since then, Ys I showed up on Switch via the EGG Console series, and NIS America announced Ys X will be localized later this year. This is terrible news for our podcast, which became inaccurate before it even hit the patron feed here. But good for everyone else, who can enjoy these games now.

IT IS TIME... for me to start playing this series. I'm hearing that Ys I & II chronicles is a good place to start? I have Origins for the Switch and I&II on the Turbografx mini, any suggestions?

Played 1 and 2 recently through thr Chronicles version on Steam and had a pretty good experience overall (though more with 2 than 1). The 360 movement did work pretty well when I used it. However I did find an issue that didn't seem like it would be a problem. Modern refresh rates make Dark Fact at the end of 1 next to impossible.
