Omg so excited for this! Thank you.

On the "Hold Your Wee for a Wii" incident: IIRC, they didn't consult a doctor and then go ahead with it despite knowing it was dangerous. After the contest had started, a nurse (either RN or NP) called in and warned them that it was dangerous and they should switch to sports drinks to prevent water intoxication. The hosts laughed and said "She signed a waiver, it'll be fine." That's probably less awful than if they had reached out in advance and asked, then ignored the advice but it's still astonishingly fucked up and those idiots deserved to lose everything.

And generally speaking, I fucking hate the Wii. I'm legally blind because of pre-natal damage to my optic nerves, and text size is less important than my distance from that text. There's literally nowhere I can sit relative to my 50" TV where I can both read text on the screen and make "pointer" motion controls work. (I can do waggle controls that don't require the sensor bar just fine.) So I never got to play Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, Skyward Sword or Zak and Wiki and I never will, and it makes me angry even as I figure that it'd be unfair to make Nintendo conform every game to my needs.

I love the Wii, but once you installed the homebrew channel it became the ultimate emulator machine & I loved it more, mine is still hooked up today. I was so happy that the controller from the Mini NES was compatible with the Wii, made playing NES games on it amazing.

Right—I knew the events but might have misspoke during the podcast. In any case it's a horrible tragedy that more people should know the true story about. - Bob

Matt Bixler! Hello!

Who else googled to see if "Ding Dong and The Badger" were actually the radio hosts in question?

Scott Scallion

At the end of the day, the Wii had a pretty impressive virtual console library (though some games/systems have now been delisted). Perhaps the best Nintendo has offered to date? I imagine the emulation quality isn't always the best, but I still give them a lot of credit.

Cool. I was actually thinking of suggesting this episode. Can't believe it's already been a decade man.

Bob! I thought you mentioned that you might make fun of John Stossel again one of these days. Taps foot impatiently...

do you have a list of the music tracks you used in this episode? one of them sounded like a long-lost YMO jam.

I love the Wii for having plenty of the quirky and obscure games that really appealed to me. Some of my favorites include: Sin & Punishment: Star Successor - This game is Treasure at its finest and still holds up as the greatest rail shooter ever created. This can be obtained at a low price or on the Wii U eShop. Rhythm Heaven Fever - This installment has what I consider to be the best soundtrack in the series. If I am ever feeling down, the music never fails to lift my mood. Also can be obtained for cheap or on the eShop. Bit.Trip Complete - This compiles the series of music-themed games that was released on WiiWare and adds extra levels, developer commentaries, and remix tracks. Trauma Team - I had no expectations going into this entry of the Trauma Center series but I ended up enjoying it way more than any of the other Trauma Center games. It is also on the eShop. Little King's Story - I enjoyed the game mixing up elements of Pikmin and Harvest Moon while presenting a weird story of world domination. The game is also on Steam but I do not know how that compares.
