After putting together a lengthy episode of NES Works on Blaster Master and editing Stefan Gancer's excellent The History of Sunsoft, I've had that series on my mind quite a bit this year. Naturally, I decided to scrape as much content from my work as I could. I work harder and smarter. I'm halfway to being successful!

Fellow Blaster Master fans Stuart Gipp and Todd Ciolek joined me for this conversation, which covers the series (both the handful of good games and the many misbegotten ones) all the way up to IntiCreates' excellent Blaster Master Zero games. The most recent ones aren't even retro! Not a shabby legacy for a series that began by sending children out to catch a frog that as trying desperately to escape from captivity. In Blaster Master, YOU are the villain.

Great timing on this episode! I had just started playing through all three Blaster Master Zero games in the last 2 wks!

After listening to the episode, I popped the game again for the first time in a while in order to experience it with fresh eyes, but with one crucial difference: playing with the NES Advantage instead of the standard controller. Joystick for 8-way movement and rapid fire sure makes the top-down segments a whole lot more fun.
