Unfortunately, Nintendo just delayed Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp indefinitely due to real-life circumstances. But this week, in the spirit of American sticktoitiveness (and because we didn't want to change the schedule), we're looking back at Intelligent Systems' surprisingly long-lived turn-based war strategy series. Over the course of 20 years, Advance Wars boiled down the incredibly complex design of PC war strategy games into a colorful, console-friendly experience that could still be surprisingly difficult. So join Bob Mackey, Henry Gilbert, and Chris Daniel as the crew looks back at the lighter side of inhumanity.

Don't tell me they rag on BW! (Not finished the episode yet obviously) I loved those games so much I even went through a cringey "military chic" attire phase as a teen, as opposed to emo punk which was the style at the time. I must be one of the biggest fans in the world, I even own some BW Lego vehicles I custom designed and ordered online... It was amazing how with AW and BW it meant getting TWO caricature takes on real world military/national stereotypes, one Japanese and one British. Thanks to this episode I dug out my 3DS (Still held a good charge after 3+ years!) and jumping into AWDS it is still every bit as addictive and compelling. I wonder if they will be editing the remakes in any way given Ukraine? I think it would be nicer and suit the aesthetic if units that were fatally attacked would be shown surrendering and "disbanding" instead of complete annihilation which is itself rather unrealistic.

This episode made got me addicted to Advance Wars games again earlier this year. I even had to go to Famicom and Super Famicom Wars to get more of my fix (which I found quite excellent). So thanks I guess for being enabling my addiction to these games.
