We've got a real blast from the past for you this week—which is kinda the point of Retronauts, but our newest episode is a blast from the past in an entirely different way. We originally recorded this one on December 6th, 2015, exclusively as an episode for our Kickstarter backers, but now so much time has passed that we feel it's the right time to release this podcast to the general public. So join Jeremy Parish, Bob Mackey, and special guests Steve Lin and Jaz Rignall as the crew discusses Atari's oversized handheld and says things they likely don't remember in the distant year of 2020. Transport yourself back to a time when we were still excited for more Star Wars and get ready for this week's episode!

[Note: This episode was originally posted with some unplanned silence in the middle break. It's fixed now!]

Would love to read that Nowgamer article, but that website seems to have turned in to Gamesradar.

This was a great listen. I actually spoke with Craig Nelson, a former Epyx guy who worked on the Lynx hardware design. He noted that they all knew Atari wasn’t to be trusted ahead of time, and thus took very careful notes and records during the entire period they worked together. When Atari screwed them over, apparently they were able to sue them and successfully get paid because they were ready for it.

More Jaz Rignall please. Though as a fellow ex-pat Brit, hearing him say 'zee ex' Spectrum stabbed me a little bit. 😁

I got my Lynx in 1997, a friend got it at a garage sale as a gift. It had clearly been disassembled for repair and put back together, as it had two huge bolts sticking out of the button side. It was my first portable and I loved it. Electrocop is more interesting than good, Gauntlet is not purely Gauntlet but it's close enough to the formula to work well, And that is still my favorite take on Rampage.

Why is the podcast not available on Spotify?

Surprisingly (or not), the Lynx has some presence in the demoscene: https://youtu.be/veWqxkTFs5w?t=1110 making the most of its 160 × 102 resolution
