Hey folks—Bob here. No, you're not seeing things; I decided to post January's second Friday podcast WAY ahead of time as a special bonus to all of you early adopters of the new $5 tier, and to also give you a sense of the kinds of podcasts we'll be offering at this level. Thanks so much for your support! (Hopefully the episode appearing out of order in your feed won't drive you crazy.) This episode was originally intended to post on 1/17, meaning  your next exclusive Friday podcast will hit on 1/31. So if you want to pace yourself, you can hold onto it until then, or listen now. That's the power of choice!

Also, there will be a new Retronauts cover from Nick Daniel attached to this in the future, and included in a separate post so you can see it in all its splendor. (I didn't let him know I was posting this early.)

As for this episode, I've wanted to do a Super Mario RPG episode for a while, so here I am finally getting around to it in my ninth year of hosting Retronauts. I'm a big fan of all the Mario RPG brands—all of which are old enough for Retronauts episodes—but I decided to begin with where it all started: Square's 1996 SNES release. And for this discussion, I pulled in my Talking Simpsons Network pal Henry Gilbert, and a newcomer to Retronauts, Maddie Copp! Maddie's done quite a bit of art for the Talking Simpsons Patreon, and has been on a few of our podcasts over there. She's a big fan of Super Mario RPG, and since she was in town, it was the perfect time to record this one! She's got her own Patreon too, so maybe throw a few bucks her way!

Thanks once again for joining the Patreon at this tier. Expect more standard, full-length episodes like this one at the $5 level in the future!

Maddie was a great addition! I hope she can join again.

Having just subscribed to the Patreon, I can't help chuckling at Paper Mario being described as "dead" now that we're ten days out from the Origami King.
