Yeah, it's another one of our Final Fantasy deep dives. I bumped this one forward in the schedule because the game in question—Final Fantasy Tactics—has been in the air a lot lately. Most recently, several of Final Fantasy XIV's expansions have delved into the world of Ivalice, which made its debut here. And as always, people everywhere long for a follow-up to Tactics that recaptures the depth, accessibility, and sophistication of the game without weird convolutions. (Ahem, Judges.) We tend to agree!

I definitely got into FF:Tactics because of my love of Shining Force. My brother and I played and replayed SF and SFII - then pre-ordered and received the only copy of SFIII in our city. When volumes II and III never came out, we needed to scratch that itch and Tactics was it for awhile - until the judges were introduced, which made us jump over to Disgaea.

Also - Shining Force wasn't side by side - it was character by character.

The comparison to DnD is apt as Matsuno made Crimson Shroud on 3DS which is literally a tabletop game.

I can't express how nervous I am about playing through Tactics eventually on Square Roots, because I bought the game day 1 and have never, ever defeated Wiegraf. Heck in later playthroughs I couldn't even get through the room with all the archers BEFORE Wiegraf. Maybe I just have to accept that I am The Worst at Tactics games.

Auto-Potion to soak up damage, and Scream until you can kill Wiegraf in one punch.
