Boy. So. This game is retro, huh? Yep.

Anyway... we all love Katamari so much that we broke new ground with this episode! It's the first time we've recorded an east/west coast episode remotely, with Bob joining the Retronauts East crew (Ben and Benj) via Skype to lavish affection upon Keita Takahashi's wonderful little garbage-rolling simulation. Wow! New and different conversational dynamics! Exciting!

There is, naturally, a lot of great music in here. And! Great cover art by Cassie Hart Kelly.

Please to enjoy.

Great episode! I hope We Love Katamari gets a re-release. I never played any of the other Katamari games because I never thought they could match what made the first one so special. It's great to hear that there is a another good Katamari for me to play.

One of the greatest tragedies of my life has been how the PS2 installments have been quite motion-sickness inducing for me.

The first time that I remember hearing about Katamari Damacy was seeing a video of it on some show on G4 that was dedicated to playing game trailers (imagine that nowadays). I was drawn in by the video immediately but I thought that it’s graphical style and soundtrack seemed way too Japanese to ever come out in the US. I was so glad to be wrong about that.

Where could Katamari go next? Battle Royale. Now bear with me, I know that the type of game battle royale is might run counter to the vibe in Katamari but we've seen the concept proven in a lot of the popular io games. Quickly consume and get big enough to consume your opponents. Imagine a giant katamari rolling by while you narrowly dodge and roll up another, smaller, player. The victor could get to name their star, with their opponents listed in the contents, or they could just diss them and turn them into stardust.

I think a Katamari Battle Royale would entail someone dropping 100 people onto an island and you'd have to roll them all up with your Katamari. "Today, we're going to be rolling up Cuddle Team."
