Hey everyone, here's an episode that prrrrrobably should have run a few months ago! Whoops! Back at BitSummit in May, I got together with Retronauts regular D. Feit (now a contributor to the site!) to talk about the at-the-time-very-recently-announced SNK 40th Anniversary Collection for Switch, given that he's a huuuuge SNK fan. (He even lives in Kansai, where SNK is based! That's fandom.) The conversation here is a little outdated now that I have a review version of the collection and have played all of these (and other) games... but still, it's a look at history. And there'll be a more informed follow-up—I recorded a behind-the-scenes discussion about the making of and philosophy behind this compilation with producer Frank Cifaldi in Portland last month, and that'll run in a few weeks as a Friday bonus episode.

Anyway, the collection is really good and you should give it a look. You can read my not-objective-at-all review on the site.

Episode description: Retronauts contributor and SNK ultra-fan D. Feit joins Jeremy Parish for a casual conversation about the games of SNK 40th Anniversary Collection for Switch—the first in a two-part exploration of this landmark anthology!

Really enjoyed this. I hadn't heard of some of these. Even though I'm rubbish at old arcade games I'm going to get the collection. It's the same masochism that leads me to try to get through the Mega Man Legacy Collection on the Switch...

Just picked up the compilation thanks to this podcast 😬

The compilation has a great museum feature that features screenshots and descriptions of some of the weirder games (like Canvas Croquis) !
