In 2004, Hideo Kojima restored his famous series' reputation with Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. This third entry in the Metal Gear Solid series eschewed the excessively meta approach of the previous sequel for a James Bond-ish romp in an entirely new setting that still provided plenty of convoluted--and incredibly amusing--twists and turns. The result is a modern classic that's brimming over with so many great, unique ideas, we barely have time to scratch the surface in 90 minutes! On this episode, join Bob Mackey, Jeremy Parish, Mikel Reparaz, and Wes Fenlon as the crew takes a closer look at Metal Gear Solid 3 under the survival viewer.

I'm one of the weirdos who prefers the fixed cameras, even in MGS3. The free camera just makes the game feel more unwieldy for me as it was obviously added in a game that wasn't built for it. It felt much better in MGS4/5 as the game was built from the ground up for a third-person camera.

So I haven't been able to beat MGS5 because it just has trouble making me feel motivated and I was listening like oh whatever it can't be that big of a deal and paused it after you say "You are lead to believe you are ________" and wow now I need to go beat that game asap.

I love MGS themed episodes of Retronauts, and this was no exception. I'd still place 3 at the top of my list for the series despite 5 having advanced the mechanics to a better place - I just love the setting and style of this game too much, even if I can admit my own bias/ nostalgia for it. I for one look forward to an episode about MGS4 sometime this year, as I have similar sentiments about it - loved it at first under the hype train, but was really bored and displeased upon revisiting it.

You're kind of winning me over to checking the series out.
