Ever since taking Retronauts full-time last year, I've been wanting to venture beyond the realm of purely discussing video games and into other retro media with episodes dedicated primarily to film, television, etc. — without altogether abandoning the video game angle. Usually when we discuss tie-in games, we briefly summarize the property and focus on games; I've been wanting to flip that on its head for media that is more interesting than the games based on it. It's taken a while, but here's the first of them from me, which comes right on the heels of Bob doing something similar with the LaserTime crew re: Animaniacs a couple of weeks ago. Great minds, eh?

This episode was as much fun to record as I'd hoped, and it turned out (in my opinion) wonderfully. You can definitely look forward to more podcasts dedicated to beloved (and less-loved) ’80s media. If there's a video game connection, it's all fair game. But I'm happy to have kicked this off with a film so dear to my heart — I think you can really hear the affection we have for this bizarre, inventive, wonderful movie on display here. Please enjoy!

Personally I am not hugely interested in film and television stuff from the Retronauts crew. The Animaniacs Micro went into so much detail about the show that it glossed over the games! But I'm just one listener - if you enjoy making them and people enjoy listening to them, that's the main thing :)

This won't become the new format for Retronauts, just something we'll dabble in on the regular. Sometimes a media property is a lot more interesting than the games based on it, though!

I enjoyed it. I'm a Laser time patron too, though, so that's to be expected. Props to whoever did the Kermit voice (Benj?) That was spot on Jim Kermit.
