Spider-Man has been starring in video games for 35 years, but outside of a few rare instances, his digital adventures didn't receive much praise before Neversoft brought him into the world of polygons. On this episode of Retronauts, join Bob Mackey, Jeremy Parish, Gary Butterfield, and Spider-Man superfan Henry Gilbert as the crew pores over the many, many Spidey games released from 1982 to 2000. Anybody call for a web-slinger?

Wild timing, as I just started the last Retronauts on SEGA arcade games with its extended discussion of...Spider-Man

I don't think I realized how bad I needed this episode until just now. I'd say Spider-Man has the most prolific game career of any Marvel or DC hero (closely followed by Batman), and as such has a wild mixture of trash and gold. I really hope Spider-Man PS4 rises to the top of the pile since we haven't had a great Spidey game since Web of Shadows.

Super excited to listen to this. Hopefully they mention Spider Man and Captain America in Dr Doom's Revenge. Also, the C64 puzzle platformer that disappointed a young lad named Nathan Hill.

Oh snap! I got lucky enough to meet Henry at Wrestle Kingdom 12 and he talked about this one!

The weirdest thing about the 2600 Spider-Man game is that Parker Bros almost released an Odyssey2/Videopac port of it in Europe. No idea who wrote it, but a chip with the game was found some years ago and a run of reproductions made: http://www.thelogbook.com/phosphor/1983/spiderman-o2/

The Capcom VS iteration of Spider-Man looks so incredible. I love how they animated him with his hunched over body language. Maybe the best Spider-Man in motion there has ever been? I also came across SEGA's arcade game back in the day and it was indeed eye popping in that Turtles arcade kind of way! Here's hoping you guys do a follow up. Spider-Man 2 in particular deserves a discussion. :)

Fantastic episode. Loved hearing all the games I played as a kid mentioned, even if they were barely passable C64 games. I remember enjoying the animated series Spidey game on SNES, but that was a LONG time ago. I too fondly remember the arcade game. Tho I have to admit to liking Cap and The Avengers better. Great job, you guys! What I wouldnt give to sit down and have a beer with Henry to discuss comics!
