Hey folks,

It's time for another Retronauts "HD remake!" This one comes to you roughly nine years after Retronauts' original Mario Kart episode, and thankfully, the Mario Kart series is in a much better place than it was in 2008 (for us, anyway). This one's a little longer than usual, so hopefully you'll enjoy everything we crammed into it!

This Town Is Doomed, LLC

I was a little surprised to hear Bob introduce the SNES soundtrack with the word "grating"; this is a God-level soundtrack by OKA (not "Oko") ;-)

You guys mentioned how every character in SMK had rivals that would always finish second when you were racing against them (assuming the player finished first). Well as I recall the entire order of finish of the other 7 racers in every race was determined by which character you picked. For example i think with Mario it was Donkey Kong second, Peach third and Luigi fourth. However you could mess up the predetermined order by using an item at the end of the race. So if you hit DK with a banana peel right at the end he would finish 3rd or 4th. You had to time this right at the end because otherwise he would overtake the characters he was supposed to finish ahead of before the end of the race.

Also if you did this on the first race of the cup, the normal order would be altered for the remaining races. So DK would then finish 3rd instead of second for the rest of them. This was one of my favourite things to do because it seemed fun to mess with the AI like that. The last race of the Mushroom Cup was great for doing that because if you hit them with an item you left on the jump at the end it would send them several places back from where they were supposed to finish.

I'm that one guy who loves Super Circuit! At the time I played a lot of games with guides because I loved Expert Gamer, and Super Circuit's re-emphasis on shortcuts made it a great guide game. Also, best Rainbow Road.

Regarding what Henry said about the Super Mario Kart R logo: I totally remember it being printed on they a back of our N64 box. It was printed alongside several upcoming games (including Kirby's Air Ride). So yeah; it's not a Mandela Effect. ;)

Did Sinbad play a genie in the 90s and was Mario Kart ever known as "R"? :)

Leave it to you guys to take a topic I am thoroughly uninterested in and make a really enjoyable episode out of. And an extra long one, to boot! Good job.
