Stuart: I don’t think anyone, least of all myself, expected this Astérix podcast to turn into the odyssey it would ultimately become. The fact is, Audi, Thomas, and John are just too knowledgable of the series, though the real culprit here is the fact that there really are an enormous number of Astérix games. Many, many times more than I could ever really have imagined. “Hey, let’s split this into two parts”, I found myself saying. Then, during the second part, it became clear that a third installment would be required. Hey, it ain’t just Sonic 3 & Knuckles that deserves time and attention.

Did I foresee a world in which I would oversee the recording of almost five hours of Astérix game chat? No, of course not. But it happened, and I’m glad it happened. Just try to find a more exhaustive, more insightful piece of coverage of this very euro-centric comic book adaptation. Sorry, that should be bande dessinée adaptation, shouldn’t it? What a gauntlet of games we run, from VCS to PS2 and beyond. There are so many instalments in the series, and they represent such a broad display of genres – and quality – that it was an absolute pleasure to be a part of these discussions.

If you know Astérix, I’d wager you’re about to know more about it. If you don’t know Astérix… well, buckle up, by Toutatis. Never before has any podcast gone this deep on Astérix’s gaming legacy. Unless they have, it’s not like I checked. But even if we weren’t first, we were definitely best. Or my name isn’t Stuart “Goingbaldix” Gipp.

American here. My only history with this IP is seeing Asterix VHS tapes in the discount section of my local video store in the late 90s. I thought it was off brand Popeye.

I never thought that the biggest divide between the American and European Retronauts camps would center on their opinions on Doug.

I have fond memories of lazing in the musty guest bedroom on my family's farm as a kid, reading my uncles enormous ancient stash of Asterix comics. Thus avoiding anything unpleasant and annoying, ie going into nature and the outdoors with the rest of the family.

Ugh, agreed! As a society we have spent many a millenia getting out of nature, why would we ever want to go back? There are bears out there! Deliverance took place in nature!

Loved this as an American. Fascinating peek into an unknown history for me

Comparing Astérix to that silly egg Dizzy? Pardon my French but I’ve had en œuf.
