Episode 602: Evercade (Patreon)

I’ve been a fan of Evercade for a while now and this episode has been something of a long time coming. I was concerned to some extent that I like Evercade a bit too much, and that any interview would be essentially me saying “why are you so great?” over and over again, but I think this turned out more interesting than that.
If you’re not familiar with Evercade, it’s a system that primarily sells itself on compilation cartridges, a few of which are discussed here. What drew me to the whole thing, of course, was the likes of The Oliver Twins Collection and the later Bitmap Brothers/Codemasters sets. It’s not just that these are pretty laser-focused in appealing to me, it’s that the games simply aren’t available on any other contemporary system.
Hopefully Evercade will keep releasing cartridges both niche and broad in appeal; I never thought the DOS Duke Nukem games would get anything like the attention they were given here, so I’ve got my eyes perpetually on their new releases. That said, I’m running out of pipe dreams. Maybe if they got the Miner Willy games on a cart, somehow? That’d be neat. Though with 64-bit games having landed on the system now, the sky is the limit. Though we’re probably not getting Castlevania…
