Was it just me, or did the Russians wave a white flag before they had to lob a grenade out of the trench they were in?

It was a ruthless tank assault. But tank vs trench is generally a bad idea. It would have been a lot more effective with infantry nearby, to maybe... I dunno, throw a HE grenade or Molotov cocktail into the trench? Or maybe the tanks had to do their best knowing they were without infantry support? In either case, looks like they triumphed.
