Fall brings a relative lull to Kamaole Beach, the mad rush of summer vacationers having gone back to the mainland and their mundane, nine-to-five lives. The lack of vacationers also means a scaled-back staff of lifeguards, and the beaches no longer need two attendants on duty. Gone is the overtime and the six-day workweeks, all but the most senior staff cut down to near part-time hours.

Barely a week into Fall and Kalani is already bored. It was annoying at first, back when Nani was a new hire, but now she's come to miss her maniacal co-worker's less-than-subtle innuendos and near-constant fondling.
