Update:  Guess who got a job?  :D  Details to follow.

Some of you may have already read over on Gagala's patreon that, yes, I am in fact on the job hunt again.

This time last year...a year and ten days ago to be exact...I accepted a position on the same airport I'd worked on for nearly a decade a half, but with the airport authority itself.  It was just like any other government job I'd ever had...and I've had quite a few of them.  Same crappy pay, same bureaucracy-minded shenanigans...same old, same old.  Also, this time last year, I was under the impression that the job I had prior...doing facilities maintenance for an HOA management company...was the worst job I'd ever had.

I was wrong.

Just outside of the glossy public appearance of that airport is a museum.  I mean that in the literal sense.  Facility-wise, about 75% of the airport are leftovers from when it was Navy base which closed in early 1970s...and should have been razed to the ground in the 1990s.  So, my job was essentially a band-aid replacer.  Patching up cheaply-made facilities that were built by the lowest bidder...sixty or seventy years ago.  Likewise, all of the 'modern' post-military facilities, also quality-built by the lowest bidder.

So, who likes being underpaid by a factor of 25% compared to the same job in the private sector?  How about working in a sub-department that's supposed to have eight to ten employees, but there's only two of you, thus quadrupling your daily workload?  How about being subbed out to other departments because they are continually short-handed and then doing something that's waaay outside of your job description...like running a weed eater for six hours a day for a week or more?  How about a boss who is one of those 'get 'er done' types?  Not get it done correctly, efficiently, and cost-effectively....just get it done.

Now, I'm not left-leaning.  I'm not right-leaning.  I'm about as middle-of-the-road as it gets.

Who here likes a little friendly discussion about macroeconomics and it's relation to the American political system?  Maybe a little discourse as the merits of diversity in modern American society?  Yeah, no, you won't be getting that there.  What you will get...hourly, daily, rinse, lather, repeat...is a bunch of Biden-hating worshipers of 'The Donald' who love them some second amendment rights.  Whose sentences usually begin with and end in some variant of the word 'fuck' and whose general mantra is something akin to the Hank Williams, Jr song, 'A Country Boy Can Survive'.  Don't even get me started on the vax to anti-vax ratio of employees (and the related myriad of conspiracy theories taken as truth and gospel that came spouting forth on an hourly basis) there either.

...and that's the short list.

Two months ago my wife took note that I was coming home tired, pissed off, and absolutely miserable looking every single day.  Nothing good to say, no "honey, I'm home"...just walk in the house, get in the shower, and then shut myself in my office to decompress until dinner time.  By Cinco de Mayo, I'd had enough.  No two week notice, no leave of absence.  Gave my  keys and security badge to my manager, gave a few applicable parties an obscene finger gesture, and then walked out the front door.  See'yuh.

On the ride home I sang along to Johnny Paycheck's "Take This Job and Shove It".

The wife commented that it was the first time in -forever- that she'd actually seen me come home from work with a smile on my face.

So, where does that leave me?  Some have suggested that I do this (I'm pointing at the Patreon website on my monitor) for a living.  I have seriously considered that....and I am weighing the pros and cons.  On the other hand, I have a job interview next week...and it isn't aviation or (hands-on) maintenance related. *grin*
