Up until this one the oldest cartoon character I've done was Blondie.  Technically speaking, Bettie is older by a whole, whopping month, debuting in Max Fleischer's Dizzy Dishes on August 8, 1930.  Chic Young's Blondie comic strip (originally called 'Blonide and Dagwood') on the other hand, began publication in various newspapers on September 8, 1930.
