Guess who's employed?
That's right...
>>>>>THIS GUY<<<<<
Some of you may know that I was initially trying to get on with the US Postal Service, and I did...sort of. As government jobs go it's one of the hardest fields to get into when you're a regular joe six-pack, but when you're a disable combat veteran (multiple time over) you have a leg up on the competition. You receive an offer, accept it, go through all of the usual hiring process shenanigans and then you wait...and wait...and wait. A minimum of three months of waiting (six to eight if you're not so lucky) for them to actually put you into the position.
I wasn't willing to wait three to six months (or more) for a part time job with no benefits and no guarantee of a full time position.
I won't go into any real detail as where I now work. Let's just say that I now do facilities maintenance in a stupidly-uber-rich gated community full of multi-million dollar homes and an exclusive,high-end golf course in the middle of Florida. It's strictly Monday thru Friday, full time, bankers hours, a less than 5 mile round trip commute, $1 per hour less than what I was making before, and comes with all of the usual benefits. I won't quite say it's a cushy job, it's blue collar, but it's 90% less stressful.
Compare that to my old micro-managed-to-death job where I was getting up at 4:30 in the morning for a 40+ mile commute, and slowing killing myself with (on average) 60 hour work weeks. When I wasn't working weekends, I was flip-flopping shifts with another supervisor and not getting home until 11pm (or staying until one or two in the morning)...and usually came home stinking of jet fuel. When I wasn't catering to the every need of the uber rich and famous, I was slingin' jet fuel and moving around multi-million dollar aircraft. When I wasn't doing that...I was the plumber, carpenter, electrician, grounds keeper, and janitor...and not getting paid any extra for it. Oh, and the last raise I saw was a 23 cent "cost of living adjustment"...two years ago.
Ok, so yeah....it's a cushy job. :D
Now, you may be saying to yourself, how's he going to have time to put out any content with this new job? Well, actually, I was putting out slightly less content when I was with my old employer than I am right now. Given that I'm working far less hours and spending minutes (rather than hours) commuting, I should have plenty of time.
