Take comfort in being able to relate. That to me is the great gift of "How to ADHD" - we are not alone! I am 66 years old and wasn't diagnosed until I was in my mid fifties. It wasn't until I stumbled onto this channel a few months ago that I saw somebody else describing exactly what my life has been. Made me cry many times. We have to forgive ourselves for that over which we had no control. That's been critical for me finding peace with this.

There are some great things about failure though I can't think of many. By some measurements, I am a failure. No money, no long list of wonderful acts. I still want to save the world at 70. Right now I'm sick. Americans seem to be more focused on external goals. Being a good person only counts if you can get rich at the same time. You also bring up that we just don't seem to know where to put that goal. Expectations have to be managed. Move from expectations to aiming for that goal. In the beginning, we may not reach a goal when we should just do it and see where the goal should be. An example is that I need to layout my equipment and set my mind toward the task the night before.
