Thank you to everyone who joined the Otoawase competition!

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WINNER WHO WILL BE RECEIVING THE FOLLOWING:

In this video, we are announcing the results and also giving individual advice to everyone who participated.

There were so many good things about each of you, and it was amazing!

Even if you didn't join this time, we think there are many parts that will be helpful for you as well. So, we hope you will take this opportunity to watch together and collect some tips for your practice.

Vocabulary List

Sukui -  producing sound through upstroke of the bachi

Kakegoe - a vocal expression to signify to either the audience or other players (when playing in an ensemble) you are about to move to the next section

Otoawase - to tune and synchronize rhythm at the beginning of a song. There are songs that has not Oto-awase as well

Nimaibachi - a double Tataki of one note within one Haku (beat) to produce sound

Oshibachi - to slide/push bachi across two strings next to each other, for example from the 1st to 2nd string or the 2nd to 3rd string to produce sound

Maebachi - to strike bachi at upper shamisen body (closer to neck) to produce a change in sound dynamics and rhythm

Ushirobachi - to strike bachi at the lower part of shamisen body (closer to the Koma)  to produce a change in sound dynamics and rhythm

Sao - the Shamisen neck which you hold with your left hand

Itomaki - the tuning pegs

Kawa - the ‘skinned’ part of the shamisen’s main body that is struck with Bachi

Sawari - the section on the upper part of the shamisen neck just below the kami-goma (the 1st string) that is raised or lowered in order to create a buzzing noise that brings out the true Tsugaru sound. Tsugaru Shamisen has a screw called Azuma Zawari (Sawari). Note: some cheaper Tsugaru Shamisen may not have a Sawari

Tuning - to adjust the pitch of the Shamisen

SHABO - A simplified shamisen for beginners developed by Shamisen Rakuya.

Doukake (Body Cover) - A piece that is placed on one side of the Shamisen body so that the hand holding the Bachi can rest on it when playing the Shamisen

スクイ - おろしたバチを糸の下から上に向かってすくい上げて音を出すこと

掛け声 （かけごえ） - 合奏において次のフレーズに移る時にたての人が他の奏者に出す合図

音合わせ（おとあわせ）- 曲の最初にその曲のリズムをとりながら音を合わせること。音合わせがある曲とない曲がある

二枚撥（にまいばち） - 1拍の間で叩き（たたき）を二連打して音を出すこと

推し撥 （おしばち） - １の糸から２の糸、または２の糸から３の糸というように、隣り合わせいる糸から糸へバチをスライドさせて音を出すこと

前撥（まえばち） - 三味線の胴の前の方 [棹（さお）に近い方] で音を出すこと

後ろ撥（うしろばち）- 三味線の胴の後ろの方 [駒（こま）に近い方] で音を出すこと

皮（かわ）- 三味線の胴に張られている白い部分。動物性の本皮と合皮がある

胴（どう）- 三味線の皮がはってある部分のこと

棹（さお）- 三味線の左手で指を押さえるネックの部分

糸巻き（いとまき）- 糸を張る時に糸を結びつける上の部分。糸巻きを回して調弦を行う

皮（かわ）- 三味線の胴に張ってある撥（ばち）で叩くところ

サワリ - 三味線の棹の上部裏側に付いているネジのこと。サワリを使うと「ビーン」という三味線独特の音の響きを追加させることができる

調弦 - 三味線の音程を調整すること

SHABO - 三味線　楽やが開発した初心者のための簡易的な三味線のこと
