I’ve been every manager in a hotel you can imagine, currently a gm, all over the us. The minute the hotel has a commissionable rate, ie a travel agent commission, they increase the rate they quote by that percentage. It is absolutely typical practice to bill a client for attrition if they don’t fill a block. You can sometimes negotiate a further cut off date for a lower attrition. For example, if you have a cut off of 3 months out from the arrival date allowing a hotel more time to re sell those rooms, you can often negotiate only having to fill 50% of your contracted block. Or you can negotiate that if the hotel sells out the nights you didn’t fill your block, you don’t pay for those. All that to say, I worked for Hyatt for over a decade (I dont currently, but truly love the brand) and for what Kippy found at half the rate, your family would be absolutely delighted to stay there. You can negotiate breakfasts into their rate at locations like that too- typically at a discount.

jfc Foley... There's two types of destination weddings: The ones you don't want anyone to go to, and the ones you actually do; And that second one, unless you're paying everyone's way is the biggest dick move. That's an easy $5,000 for every couple - that's what you're doing to your favorite people. "Come watch my irresponsible middle-aged ass get married on your own fifty-thousand dimes." "But the bird's from there!" Such a Foley move, making his relationship into other people's obligation/problem. "It's gotta be at the most expensive time of the year so people are on holidays and my family can come!" My man, they're not coming. Invite 60, maybe get 10, I'd be surprised if any brought their kids. And they'll all be pissed that you're jamming them up at christmas.
