Husband and I got married in Doylestown, PA last summer. We did a block and the rooms were around $160 a night. As the weeks got closer, we found rates posted cheaper by the hotel itself. We called and complained and they lowered but it was a hassle. The block is a scam. If you’re having shuttle run from a hotel, just let your guests know what hotel that would be from and to book themselves. They can choose if they want to stay there or not. Also- just throwing this out there from experience because I’m a teacher- rates for hotels and flights are ALWAYS more expensive during breaks from school- winter break, spring break, holidays, etc. That’s why rates might be more expensive, but $600+ for a room is ridiculous unless you’re staying at the Royal Hawaiian or the Ritz- something like that. I planned our whole wedding. Shit is EXPENSIVE because of inflation. We didn’t even break even from the expenses we took on and my dad and husband’s dad chipped in for most of it. It’s a lot. If you’re looking for a good favor- we found a guy who comes and takes pictures of the couples/families attending. He printed the photos in his van at our venue and put them in a little insert. We had all different frames that I wrapped that people could choose from that fit the size of the photo. People raved about it and we love seeing them displayed in people’s homes! For background, my family and I are in cali but have native family on the big Island, more specifically in Kailua Kona. You will ALWAYS lose with going big name resorts/hotels. Same mentality of “Vegas wasn’t built by winners”, resorts weren’t built with deals. I’m Samoan with native Hawaiian family- Tough spot to be in, you’re better off being your own “travel agent”. Lean on local talent for things like entertainment (luau, DJ, etc) and spend a couple hours for excursions. FYI December to mid January is the most expensive time to travel to da islands LMAO
