Heyo!

After the sudden - and frankly somewhat unexpected - pour-in of comments on the Cind-Reaper override I've posted yesterday, some of you hit me up with ideas for similar permanent overrides, but instead of making those, I've decided to make this tutorial, so this way everybody can make their very own reaper. 😁

This tutorial is VERY EASY to do - proper entry level, so even if you're an absolute newbie to sims modding, you shouldn't be afraid to try it out.

Also, if you'd like to see similar tutorials for Father Winter, etc., let me know in the comments and I'll try to make them, as the method would work very similarly to the Grim Reaper.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED FOR THE TUTORIAL:

  • The game (duh.)

  • Sims 4 Studio

  • The override_grim_reaper_TEMPLATE.package from the download section at the bottom of this post.

  • A slightly better attention span than a hamster. 🐹

Let's get started...

MAKE A NEW SIM (optional)

Make a sim in game with the desired "reaper outfit" on the first slot of Normal wear, and save the household into your Gallery.
(this is optional, you can use any young adult or older sim already saved in your Gallery)

Here's what I made - meet Grimette, the daughter of Grim Senior, and heiress of the Soul Reaping Empire.
(she was conceived during a wild night of reapings at the '05 Spring Break in Selvadorada) 😁

EXPORTING THE SIM TEMPLATE

Open the override_grim_reaper_TEMPLATE.package with Sims 4 Studio.

In the top menu, select [Content Management] > [My Library]

Note: now it will look like that the program has frozen, but don't worry, it has not, it just takes some time for it to load in sims from your Gallery, so be patient, it will likely take a minute or two (or three).

Once "My Library" is loaded, select the desired sim on the left side panel, then on the right side RIGHT-CLICK on the sim's icon > then click on [Export .SimInfo]

The program will prompt you to save the Siminfo file. Do so, but take note to where it was saved, so you can easily find it when we'll need it later on.
(it will be named 025ED6F4!00000000!XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX.SimInfo - where the XXX part will be a random 16 character set, that's different for every sim - DO NOT CHANGE any parts of this filename, just save it as it was offered.)

Once the export is done, close the "My Library" window, and let's switch back to the main Sims 4 Studio window where we have the override_grim_reaper_TEMPLATE.package opened.

WORKING WITH TUNINGS

On the bottom of the main Sims 4 Studio window, click on the [Batch Import] button.

Open the 025ED6F4!00000000!XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX.SimInfo file we just created in the previous step.

Now select "Sim Info" in the left panel.

in the "Data" tab on the right, scroll down to the "Key" section.

Copy-Paste this in the "Instance" field:
31F7DA1A7DD35737

If your custom sim is a MALE sim, then at this point basically we are done, you can save the package.

If you're done, then exit Sims 4 Studio, rename your saved package to something recognizable (like: override_grim_reaper_Grimette.package or something), then copy it into your Mods folder.

. . .

But in case your custom sim is a FEMALE, then we have a bit more to do:

Select "Sim Template Tuning" in the left panel, then pick the "XML" tab on the right.

Look for the following line:
<E n="gender">MALE</E>
and change MALE to FEMALE.

Save the package.

If you're done, then exit Sims 4 Studio, rename your saved package to something recognizable (like: override_grim_reaper_Grimette.package or something), then copy it into your Mods folder.

AND NOW ONTO SOME EXTRA CURRICULAR STUFF 😄

DISABLE THE GRIM REAPER VOICE EFFECT (optional)

By default, there's an eerie sound changing effect applied to the Grim Reaper's voice, but you can disable it if you want your Reaper to talk in a normal voice.

Select "Trait Tuning" in the left panel, then pick the "XML" tab on the right.

Scroll down to the bottom.

Look for the following line:
<V n="voice_effect" t="enabled">
and change enabled to disabled

Save the package.

If you're done, then exit Sims 4 Studio, rename your saved package to something recognizable (like: override_grim_reaper_Grimette.package or something), then copy it into your Mods folder.

REMOVE THE GRIM REAPER SMOKE EFFECT (optional)

I don't know why you would want to do that, as it's really cool, but hey, you can, so here's how to do it...

Select "Buff Tuning" in the left panel, then pick the "XML" tab on the right.

Scroll down to the bottom.

Look for the following line:
<V n="vfx" t="play_effect">
and change play_effect to no_effect

Save the package.

If you're done, then exit Sims 4 Studio, rename your saved package to something recognizable (like: override_grim_reaper_Grimette.package or something), then copy it into your Mods folder.

RENAME YOUR REAPER (optional)

Now, "Grim Reaper" might not be the most suitable name for your new creation, so let's change their name.

On the bottom of the Sims 4 Studio main window, click the [Add] button

In the "Add Resource..." window > for the Type select String Table.
Copy paste the following into the Instance field:
00E2C6A56803446B

Click [OK].

Select "String Table" in the left panel, then pick the "Data" tab on the right.

Click on [Edit items...]

In the "Editing Entries..." window, click on the [Add] button.

On the right copy-paste the following into the "Key" field:
0116CFA9

Then write your reaper's new name into the "Value" field.

Click the [Save] button.

If you're game locale is set to another language apart from English, then from the top menu bar select [Tools] > [Modding] > [Copy string tables to all languages].

Save the package.

If you're done, then exit Sims 4 Studio, rename your saved package to something recognizable (like: override_grim_reaper_Grimette.package or something), then copy it into your Mods folder.

Now we're all done, enjoy your new reaper!

Troubleshooting:

In case it's still the old Reaper that shows up (this is very likely on an old savegame), we need to force a one time re-generation.

If you don't have it already, you'll need to download and install the MC Command Center mod.

  • Load in your save.

  • Make a throwaway "sacrificial family" of at least 2-3 sims.
(it can be whatever, we only need them for this trick, you can get rid of them afterwards)

  • Move them into an unused lot, and load them into play.

  • Shift-click on one of them > Kill > choose whatever method.

  • Wait until the Grim Reaper finished with the "reaping" (but before he leaves), Shift-click on him > Add to family.

  • Now that he's part of the family, Click on another family member > MC Command Center > Modify Household in CAS.

  • At the bottom left, click (X) on Grim Reaper's thumbnail to Delete him from the family.

  • Exit from CAS ✔️

  • Grim now will be regenerated next time someone dies.
