In 2015, three American armed forces vets foiled an attack on a train to Paris. Three years later, Clint Eastwood enlisted the boys to re-enact their experience in a major motion picture. The result, THE 15:17 TO PARIS (2018), is a genuinely strange docu-fiction experiment that, yes, has a lot to say about America.

Speaking as someone who grew up in Sacramento and attended a private Christian high school there: no, actually, it isn’t surprising that people with conservative values came from that shitehole city, even if it is the state capital of Commyfornia. That town gave Rush Limbaugh his start and produced Thomas f@#king Kinkade. The place is crawling with right wing dipshits, especially in the suburbs (Folsom, El Dorado Hills, etc.)

There was one significant moment in the movie that I thought was really efficiently executed social commentary and I was surprised it didn’t make its way into the conversation on air. When Anthony, the one POC member of the friend group runs ahead of the skirmish to try to tell people I. The next car that “things are under control’, the screams at his presence are palpable you can see the actor realizes the conclusion they are leaping to and tries to say “ it’s ok, I’m one of the good guys” . A minute later, when Skarlotos emerges holding the terrorist’s assault rife and says the same thing, the screams are a bit more subdued. The people on the train are more alarmed by the emergence of an unarmed black man than by the appearance of a white man holding an AK47

Yeah, I had this in my notes but we didn't end up discussing us. That was dumb, because you're absolutely right. And Skarlotos carrying an AK around the train was legit an insane thing to do. - L
