Libertarian magicians Penn & Teller turn their gaze to the art world in TIM'S VERMEER (2013), a documentary that attempts to prove that, with just the right set of tools and a lot of money, one wealthy entrepreneur can paint a Vermeer. We discuss the bleak, empty void that is Penn & Teller's view of art.

This was absolutely the episode I didn’t know I needed. As an artist I watched Tim’s Vermeer and was baffled as he spent so much effort to replicate Vermeer’s composition with zero acknowledgement of how that factors into Vermeer’s identity as an artist? As if artistry is not simply someone’s technique with a brush but what/why they choose to paint what that paint. How on earth do these people perceive cinematographers and photographers?

Okay, you've beaten me. Can someone please tell me what the ridiculously cheesy disco version of Starman is at the beginning of this episode? I recall finding it once some time back and now can't find any evidence of it despite relentless Googling. It's like it's been scrubbed from the internet, for understandable reasons, I'm sure. Help me and I will be forever grateful. And slightly less forever subscribed. Also, I kinda liked Tim's Vermeer. But excellent analysis regardless.
