There was a Swedish best selling book and big movie that was basically exactly like Forest Gump, except less conservative. The Swedish guy is 100 years old and has lived through most of 20th century history. Fought in the Spanish civil war. If you are an unsiccesful writer in a small country I recommend writing your own Forest Gump
