In 1970, the October Crisis in Quebec led to the first government-mandated suspension of civil liberties in Canada during peacetime. The documentary ACTION: THE OCTOBER CRISIS OF 1970 (1974) gives us opportunity discuss the conditions of French/English Canadian tensions that led to two kidnappings by a militant Quebec separatist group, and the long shadow that the ensuing period of martial law has cast on Canada. PLUS: Yet again, we discuss that menace to society, Tom Hanks.

Last month I watch the final offer (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5p02FFcVWFc) also produce by the onf. It’s a documentary about the contract negociation between the uaw and gm in 1984 juste before the split with the intarnational union and the création of the canadian auto workers. It’s a precious testimony of the canadian union history.

I sold guns for a living for a few years, both during and after the Long Gun Registry's existence. Something that's always bothered me about the Ottawa shooting is that we have no idea how the shooter got the gun because the LGR was eliminated shortly before it happened. He likely didn't buy it on the blackmarket since it was one of the most common Canadian hunting rifles and not something that would be in high demand. If someone owned it legally and sold it to the shooter illegally then they're an accessory to the murder, and if the shooter stole the gun then the original owner is still considered an accessory due to not reporting it. Under the LGR the gun would be in the original owner's inventory and transfers would have to be conducted through the RCMP so we'd at least know how he got it. I just think it's odd that Harper hid in a closet while Parliament got shot up in a way that was only made possible because of the legislation that he tanked, and nobody in the Canadian media or politics seemed to make the obvious connection. On top of that there's an accessory to the murder that has just never been talked about and is presumably just walking around. It still drives me crazy.
