With the Beatles once again in the zeitgeist, we decided to revisit the jukebox musical ACROSS THE UNIVERSE (2007), which positioned the lads' music as a backdrop to the social upheavals of the 1960s. Does it completely misunderstand both the music and the milieu? (Spoiler: yes)

Yes, Bono was playing a Ken Kesey type and the hippie bus was straight out of Electric Kool Aid Acid Test. Again, nothing to do with the Beatles, just generic 60s tropes. Like Luke, I had the misfortune of seeing this film in the theater. My mom loved it. I groaned a lot. It's all so on-the-nose and corny. This Julie Taymor keeps getting money for disasters. She was behind the failed Spiderman Broadway musical. Bono was involved with that mess too. I guess she has a relationship with him.

I might cancel my Patreon sub if we DON’T get a full Tom Hanks hate ep.

Just kidding. MU nation forever! (But seriously, a Tom Hanks ep would be awesome.)
