It's a politics-only episode, because we've got a big subject: it's time to say goodbye to your favorite American president, Joe Biden. We welcome back Branko Marcetic to tally #46's success and failures, and do a vibe-check on the Democratic Party following the ouster of its standard-bearer. PLUS: Branko reports on the Republican National Convention.

Australians when Branko brought up AUKUS: “We’ve been mentioned on telly!”

I agree with Will’s thoughts on the Democrats, but we did get about half of them to skip Netanyahu’s speech. There’s a long way to go, sadly, but they’re feeling some pressure. Anyway, nice episode. It’s Joever!

I think the main reason Trump chose Vance as his running mate is that he wanted to save money on printing. It is the exact same yard signs as before. Pence -> Vance. Just change two letters and a number

Hell yeah, AUKUS mentioned! I do disagree somewhat that the Democrats don't have a vision in contrast to Trump's Republican Party. This was true of the Hillary Clinton campaign in 2016 but less so in subsequent elections. Even Biden's 2020 campaign had a vision—a remarkably reactionary one. At present, there are many national Democrats and state governors who have been electorally successful with a message centered around social liberalism (e.g., abortion & LGBT rights) & public investments (e.g., schools & infrastructure), which they connect to certain ideas of what America should be. This vision is far from adequate, but it is not quite true that Democrats don't know how to propose their own ideas apart from opposing Trump—I think this criticism is in many ways a hangover from 2016.

I've missed Branko. The You've Got Mail episode is one of my favorites. Bring back Meagan Day!

So who the fuck even are all these moderate midwest swing-voters that are so politically disinvested they could still go either way, are still going to vote, yet are so passionately pro-Israel they could never vote Harris if she forced a ceasefire 10-months into this tragedy? There cannot realistically be 50,000 people who vote like this.
