I think the really obnoxious thing about the Gilbert and Sullivan bit is not the extended repetition of the hilarious lyrics, but what sounds like a standing ovation at the end. Like the audience gives a shit about personnel developments in the show.

"Kubla Khan?" He really thinks that's more famous than "Rime of the Ancient Mariner?" What a moron. Also, Sorkin doesn't dramatize the writing process as collaborative because he can't conceive of writing as collaborative. He's the guy -- he writes the whole thing. And because he's a profoundly incurious person, he doesn't try to depict anything outside of his own personal experience.
