So I logged in my patreon today and my account showed -52.16 USD. Surprised, I emailed support and this is the reply I got:

"Hi Hana,

Thank you so much for reaching out and letting me know of the situation. I am so sorry for any shock or confusion you might've experienced over this, but I can definitely explain what happened.

The user in question was reported to our Trust & Safety team due to suspected fraudulent activity. After extensively reviewing the account, it was discovered that this patron had been using stolen credit card information to pledge to various creators on Patreon. Their account was disabled, and the funds from all their pledges were returned to the cardholder.

I know we dropped the ball on communication, and I want to apologize for that. Our Trust & Safety team is working tirelessly to make sure there's more notification of fraudulent activity on a creator's account; potentially in the form of email notifications and more information within your Dashboard. Unfortunately we've been running into a few roadblocks implementing these changes, but it's extremely important to me that you have access to this information.

Again, I really am sorry this happened to you. If you have any other questions about this, let me know— I'm more than happy to address any concern you might have."

Basically, they're not letting us know, but it is possible for others to use stolen credit cards to pledge to us, and when they got the content and vanished, we're left with money loss. In my case they might even be linked to the leakage of reward.

No compensation.

As a creator I am powerless over this. All I can do is to let my fellow creators know.

I really hope they have any type of compensation for our lost content for this situation.

They should implement a no refund policy in favor of the content creators in this case. The people who stolen credit cards should be taken to court or at least be legally responsible for their acts. You shouldn't lose your money because of scumbags like them.

I agree with nevermind hana. You had nothing to do with the fraudulent activity, so why should you be punished. All I can say is I will still be here every month, and I believe your other supporters will be as well. Keep your head up hana. You do amazing work.

Yeah, unfortunately that's how that works. If there was a physical product they could return it, but the credit card company won't take the loss and neither will patreon.

What you really need to look oit for is this happening as a pattern. I had a similar issue a while back and the guy would keep getting credit cards and buying, if helikes your stuff he might try again next month

I hope Patreon can implement soon some other method like the "pay per front" for the creators that we have a creation account, "pay per post" and we can avoid situations like these!

I love your work, you are a sweeet Bunny, just like me :) ♥

Damn scumbags, sucks to hear that happen to you. Hopefully they implement something to prevent this.. :/

Something like that is already available for content creators.

SORRRREEEE? That's not how fraud works. Who knows how the card got stolen it's not right to just assume negligence. HSBC for example is notorious for having their information hacked. The deduction is Patreon covering their losses and refunding the card so that the consumer who's card is being use does not lose money. Usually the CC company is the one who takes the hit but if it's avoidable by doing a credit they will. Sadly, it's very easy to credit on digital goods as opposed to physical ones. Sucks for Hana yes, but Patreon is only doing the more correct thing here. The thing that I would be worried about more is if the content that was paid for that the thief had access to temporarily is leaked but that might be able to track down and time and technically that liability still lies with Patreon so it's not like they wouldn't get off scott free if something egregious were to happen. Think you have a lot to learn about the way the world works there my friend.

That happened with me too, they retrieved a good part of my money, I dont even get that much, I had a troublesome month. Unfortunately Patreon wont compensate anything, they only replied with the exact same words when I asked where was my money that without any notice, disappeared. Im very sorry that happened to you too.

That is horrible and I am sorry it has happened to you. I know it doesn't help much but i am going to bump up my tier so i can help contribute to the money taken from you.

that's just f'ed up. Same political bs as those indiegogo guys, only worried about covering their own asses (and pockets), and don't give a rat's ass about users.

Patreon actually allows creators yo steal money, I pledged to one cosplayer that never delivered the rewards, but asked for payment the moment you pledge... on contacting and explaining the situation yo the patreon staff, they reply you back that you must try to contact the creator by yourself on other social media, when explaining again that she never answer, and its been over a month, their responde Is that you must insist..... Yes indeed patreon doesnt care about its users, they just care about collecting their money
