Every time I see a video on Japanese cleanliness, or honesty, I can't help but sit here in silent embarrassment and shame. Two friends from Yokohama came to Montreal for a visit a few years ago. I noticed every piece of litter, and dirt, and bit of uncollected trash; every pothole, and unfinished bit of construction, and unrepaired escalator in this French, "joie de vivre", "laissez-faire" city as though I was personally responsible. It must be nice to live in a clean, attentive, civic-minded society.

I feel the same when I visit Australia, Brian. Graffiti and rubbish lying around. However, it is likely your friends noticed all the good stuff about Montreal, How open and friendly the people are and so on.
