Over the course of the weekend I've watched half of a 105 minute anime film called The House of the Lost on the Cape. Yes, I'm aware that that's a terribly slow effort to watch the film.

The film itself is pretty cute so far! You got this high school age girl who ran away from an abusive dad and a elementary school aged girl whose family is dead moving in with this old woman in the house of the lost on the cape. Boom! Title of the movie! So, basically it's been more like trying to help the girls heal and turns out yokai actually exist and shit and things will be okay.

Okay, sorry, this is a shitty ass review, especially since I haven't finished watching it. I plan to watch the rest of it tonight, though! And seriously, it's cute! English dub is well done! It's worth checking out!

Once I finish it I plan to move onto Inu-Oh, which I finally grabbed when it went on sale for $15 on amazon. Which I then applied $10 from my amazon rewards panel I get every month, making it $7. Can't beat that price for a anime film on bluray!

Something else I've watched over the week was Animal Treasure Island. Storywise and such, it's a kid film. Family friendly Treasure Island with anthropomorphic animal people and kids. Despite its short run time it feels long due to cramming a bunch of story under 80 minutes.

What's neat about it is that it's based off a story pitch by Hayao Miyazaki and has plenty of his animation in it. It also being from the era of Toei when they were striving to become the Disney of Japan, and thus went hard on the animation, means it's a delight to watch. Here's an example of some good action animation and one with really well done character animation.

Discotek just put out a bluray of it as the DVD version is long out of print. Honestly, I think I might rebuy it for the bluray. Despite it being a Discotek DVD, it was literally their first DVD release and has its issues. Thankfully, modern day Discotek and their video wizards have done a great job with fixing the video quality, along with fixing this MAAAAAAASSIVE syncing problem with the English dub. Worth checking out!
