I found this fascinating and had to share.

The Korean alphabet, Hangul, is being used by villagers in the southeastern Indonesian city of Baubau to preserve their own indigenous dialect, Cia-Cia.

How amazing is that?!? 🤩

How Korea's alphabet is saving an Indonesian dialect

Subscribe to our YouTube channel for free here: https://sc.mp/subscribe-youtube For more Indonesian stories: https://sc.mp/ar6y Almost every villager in the southeastern Indonesian city of Baubau is capable of writing in Hangul, the Korean alphabet. However, they haven’t learned to write the Korean language. Instead, Hangul is being used to preserve their own indigenous dialect, Cia-Cia. Like most of the over 700 languages spoken in the country, Cia-Cia doesn’t have a proper written system. Cia-Cia speakers have adopted Hangul in an effort to preserve their dying language. This is fabulous, KFG. It’s so important that the preserving of this language is happening for the people there. We have a national based project here that has recorded all dialects as Aborigines, despite their rock art (going back 60,000 years) had no other form of communication other than verbal.

Yes, I think it's really amazing and fantastic, that Hangul could be used in such an unexpected way, to do such an important work! 🤩 That's so cool, that your national project has managed to record all dialects!

This is amazing. I love that it is spearheaded by the speakers themselves. What a wonderful way to preserve their language. I had no idea there were so many languages in Indonesia. Also wonderful, Sean, about preserving the Aborigines dialects!
