I know Trent's already shared the list of nominees in one of our chat corners, but for those who missed it, here's the list of contenders for the various Baeksang awards this year.

If I had to pick from among the nominees, right now, I feel like my pick for Best Drama would be Our Blues, Best Actor Lee Sung Min, Best Actress Kim Hye Soo.

Who are your picks? 😁

59th Baeksang Arts Awards Announces Nominees For TV And Film Categories

The 59th Baeksang Arts Awards has announced its nominees for the television and film categories! The candidates were chosen among dramas, shows, and films that aired or were released between April 1, 2022 and March 31, 2023. However, works that were released during last year's screening period were also included in this year's pool.

Some tough calls to make here, with a number of worthy nominees... Best Drama - gonna have to go with The Glory, I think. It had a great blend of elements that made for a compelling watch. If I had to bet, though, I would bet that Our Blues probably wins. It's good, and it has 'award bait' stamped all over it. Best Actor - Lee Sung-min. I mean, I'm a big fan of Son Suk-ku and Jung Kyung-ho, and they were both great in these respective roles, but Lee Sung-min was a force of nature. Best Actress - Park Eun-bin. She's been knocking on the door with great performances for years now, and she totally owned Woo Young-woo this year. This is a tough one, because Kim Hye-soo was truly excellent as the Queen, and Kim Ji-won and Song Hye-kyo were both really good in their roles as well... (I actually want to see Anna to see if Suzy really has put all vestiges of the 'idol actor' label behind her?) Best Supporting Actor - Kang Ki-young. Really good as the supportive mentor. Jo Woo-jin in Narco-saints would be my dark horse, but no one else saw it, so...oh well. Best Supporting Actress - Another tough one, it comes down to the two The Glory co-stars facing off. They were both great in their respective roles; I think I have to tip it to Yeom Hye-ran, she was just so nuanced, believable, made you want to root for her. Best New Actor - two of these I didn't see, and the other three don't particularly stand out, to be honest. I'd probably go with Kim Gun-woo as the bottom-rung thug in The Glory. Best New Actress - Noh Yun-seo. Cited here for her (great) work in CCIR, but don't forget she was also a revelation in Our Blues, in what was my favorite plot strand (the pregnant teenagers). The two Extra Atty Woo actresses were enjoyable, for sure, and I definitely look forward to seeing more of them.

I may need to amend my Best Actor nomination. I didn't think of Lee Sung Min's as a leading role (the general equivalent of Oscar nomination "Best Actor"). Son Seok Ku was superb in My Liberation Notes, but Lee Sung Min owned the show in Reborn Rich. 👍🏼

Just over half way through The Glory and, I gotta say, it's the first drama in a while that I've found cracky enough to J-binge through (that's one show every night or so 😂). Based on 10 eps, I'd give that one the nod over those I've seen, but wouldn't mind if Our Blues took the cake. And would love to see Park Eun Bin win, not only because Win rhymes with Bin (either backwards or straight!), but because she has been so good for so long in diverse roles.
