David -- thanks for sharing! Cool pics; looks like you got Chae Soo-bin in the lead for your performance. How was it?

Trent / KFG - wrote a mini review and trip report - didn't write everything but I think gives one an idea. Happy to answer any questions. Still a little jet lagged and adjusting back to PST. Shakespeare in Love - mini review My first choice for FL was either Kim Yoo Jung or Jung So Min - just because I was more familiar with their work. I had only seen Sweet and Sour with Chae Soo Bin. So I’d be lying if I wasn’t a little disappointed. But, I did see the short snippets of the other two FLs and I think Soo Bin was a very good choice after all. I would say her performance before the intermission was good - seemed a bit off but she really did well in the second half. ML Jung Moon Sung did very well - I thought he carried the show from beginning to end. There’s a 14 year age gap between the leads so it made a little bit of sense Jung had such a powerful presence. All the supporting actors were great as well. The building itself was beautiful - it sits in a plaza with several buildings which sits atop a hill within Gangnam - it’s in an affluent area - based on the cars driven - lol. . There are three levels of seating in the building - I was fortunate to get a good seat on the first level. The play was well paced and never was there a lull. The play employed 3 levels for its production - the main level, the second level and there was a bottom level that moved up to the main level. I read about the movie so knew the play so I could keep up with the story line without understanding everything. I thought this was a brilliant adaptation of SiL (though I didn’t see the movie). This could easily be a Korean drama - an overbearing Queen, a princess already matched up with another prominent family, a writer stuck in the yips - who wants to find a muse and experience love - what could go wrong. There’s a scene where Shakespeare (Jung) is directing a scene with Viola (Chae) who is dressed as a man - where Viola is supposed to kiss another male but she just gives a peck on the check so Shakespeare steps in - and gives the male actor a big kiss on the lips for a solid 5 seconds - the audience gave a Oooooh-aah (which is like our wow). The best scenes were at the end - they did the Romeo/Juliet scene which was the highlight from an acting point of view. The play shows the relationship and build up of love between Shakespeare/Viola - I didn’t quite get the full love but it was good enough. There wasn’t much singing per say - certainly music and dancing. Recording/pictures in the first couple of minutes was allowed and for the final 5 minutes. You can see many people recording as well. Overall Rating: 8/10 Interestingly, I didn’t see any international attendees. There seemed to be a lot of high school/university students too - and many who went solo. The last play I saw was Kinky Boots in NYC in 2019 and I thought SiL was at least on par with that production. It was fun to people watch too - seemed to be an eclectic group - perhaps on the student / Kdrama fans / arts / intellectual side / date night? I was just excited to be there. Hoping they film this and eventually stream it. Seoul mini review Seoul was super fun again. I went twice in 2022 so knew what I wanted to do and what I didn’t need to do. Food was top of the list - but going to a Kaorake / noreabang was on the list. Plus trying to go to a club just for the fun of it. Food wise tteokbokki, ramyeon, bibimbap, ribs, fried chicken, bulgogi, samgyeopsal, banchan/kimchi, and soup were musts. I wanted to get to a noreabang away from Myeongdong - the “best” ones are the most expensive ones in Gangnam but didn’t really want to go there. We ended up going to Itawaon. The first one we saw was a Coin one - super small. We left quickly. We found another that looked a little sketchy from the outside but decided to try this place. As we walked to the room, there were two other rooms - with people singing their hearts out - a little intimidating. We got the beer and snacks delivered and on our way. Something magical happens in a noreabang - can’t quite describe it. We had a good time - switching between Korean and American songs. I was in awe of my friend (Korean) and her singing. I think the beer kicked in and my friend had the idea to drive to the beach, spend the night and hang out on the beach in the morning - sounded great but my friend had two beers which meant I had to drive which I was not up for driving for the next two hours at night. Anyway, finished up at the noreabang and headed up to the bars on Itaewon. We stopped at one place for a drink, very loud music - it was 11 and we decided to call it a night. Overall, Seoul is great for sightseeing and for the food. Lots to do and the people are great. We got lost a couple of times over a couple of days. I’d ask my friend to ask for directions but she is shy so I ended up asking twice for directions - in my broken Korean. Both times people spoke English - too funny.
