E4. My theories about how people are connected in this drama world continue to evolve, with this episode, and I am still suitably engaged and intrigued.

Part of me wonders if Han Jong Goo knows less than he's letting on, ie, I wonder if he's playing up the idea that he knows something about Do Hyun's father's case, in order to get Do Hyun to represent him, even though Do Hyun clearly doesn't want to.

On the other hand, the fact that Han Jong Goo had been the victim's driver, in Do Hyun's father's case, does make it very possible for him to have heard or seen something, or been involved in some way.

After all, as the victim's driver, this would mean that Han Jong Goo would have had many opportunities to be around the victim, including during key points, where he could have witnessed or overheard a key conversation. Especially since higher-ups have the tendency to behave as if low-ranking help isn't even there.

There's also the possibility that Han Jong Goo had been ordered to pull the trigger - with the promise that there would be a fall guy provided..? I do wonder about that.

I really dislike the way Han Jong Goo keeps taunting Do Hyun in that gleeful manner, I have to say. The way he takes obvious pleasure in toying with Do Hyun, makes me want to reach into my screen and throttle him. So.. kudos to Ryu Kyung Soo, for playing Han Jong Goo so convincingly, I guess. 😅

I suppose, from Han Jong Goo's point of view, he'd very likely be angry that his own lawyer had basically trapped him and gotten him arrested for another crime, after getting him acquitted of the crime he'd first been tried for. I can see how he would hold that against Do Hyun, and now take any and every opportunity to punish Do Hyun, in his own way.

As for Do Hyun taking on the case, even though I'd silently cheered at first, at Do Hyun's flat refusal to represent Han Jong Goo, despite Han Jong Goo dropping Dad's name like that, I can actually fully understand why Do Hyun would cave, and change his mind so quickly.

I mean, Han Jong Goo is the only lead that Do Hyun has, in his quest to clear his father's name. If representing Han Jong Goo would give Do Hyun new information, then this is literally Do Hyun's chance to not only clear Dad's name, but more importantly, save Dad's life. I can't see Do Hyun not taking the opportunity, to be honest.

Rather, I totally buy that Do Hyun would take on Han Jong Goo's case, choosing to ignore all the questioning looks and angry protests from the people around him, if it means the sliver of a chance, that he'd be able to save his father. That's completely in line with my impression of Do Hyun as a character.

Although I'm sure that Do Hyun would rather solve this on his own without having to bend to Han Jong Goo's whims and fancies, it's true that he's been trying to crack this case for a long time on his own, and therefore, he knows exactly how hard it is, and how little information he actually has.

In the light of that, I totally understand why he'd agree to represent Han Jong Goo, even if it means taking a risk - because with how wily Han Jong Goo is proving himself to be, there's always a chance that he simply won't keep up his end of the bargain, right?

In terms of Madame Jin, this episode, we see her tell Yoo Ri, with some hesitation, that she has a son, and we also see her looking upon that son's graduation photo.

I doubt that Do Hyun is that son, because it makes no sense that Do Hyun wouldn't know his own mother's face, unless, (a), he's suffering from selective amnesia, or (b), she's undergone extensive plastic surgery.

What's more likely, I feel, is that Do Hyun is somehow connected to her son, and that connection, is the reason that she's seeking out Do Hyun, to support and help him. Given that Do Hyun's had heart surgery, it's entirely possible that Do Hyun had received a heart transplant, and her son had been that heart donor.

I would believe that a mother would go to great lengths, just to be near the beating heart of her deceased son. So that's going to be my thinking around Madame Jin, unless Show tells us otherwise.

Also, we finally get some insight into how Yoo Ri and Do Hyun had gotten to know each other. I certainly hadn't expected that they'd met at the hospital. I mean, that's a long and enduring friendship, to have grown out of a random-ish meeting a hospital.

I'm curious to know how that first meeting eventually evolved into an actual friendship, because, even though Yoo Ri had been friendly to Do Hyun, he'd been closed off and standoffish in response. I'm sure something else had happened, that had brought them closer, and made Do Hyun so tolerant of Yoo Ri's more flaky, alcoholic side.

I do think that Chun Ho's on to something, with his observation that there's one person linked to the Changhyun–dong murder, whose alibi, of being locked in the stockade, could have been fabricated.

After all, we already know that there are big guns with power and influence, who are involved in the murder of Kim Sun Hee. It's not that much of a stretch to extend that to the Changhyun–dong murder, and include big guns belonging to the military, right?

Also, what an intriguing possibility that Chun Ho floats, that the person who committed the Changhyun–dong murder, might actually be the same person who killed Kim Sun Hee. That's something that hadn't occurred to me, until he'd said it - even though it's a fairly obvious possibility. Which is why I am not a detective, ha. 😅

In terms of why Do Hyun hesitates so much before agreeing to take on the hospital negligence case, Show isn't very specific about it. I can only guess that it's because he's very preoccupied with the whole Han Jong Goo thing, and would like to pour all his time and efforts towards getting more information on his dad's case, and therefore doesn't want another case on his plate, to dilute his focus.

I do like the idea, that the more our team digs into the case, the more interesting nuggets of information they unearth.

From the looks of it, it seems that Nurse Cho is staying silent, in order to not implicate her friend Yoo Hyun Yi, who looks to be the actual murderer.

If everything that Do Hyun and his team unearth is correct, then it seems quite likely that Yoo Hyun Yi had killed Teacher Dude, for ruining her life, and Nurse Cho couldn't bring herself to out her friend for it, because she knows exactly how much Hyun Yi has suffered, as a result of being sexually assaulted by Teacher Dude.

Plus, Nurse Cho is probably also concerned for Hyun Yi's son, who is in need of extra care, as a heart patient, and would have no one to take care of him, if Hyun Yi were to go to jail.

But.. how would Hyun Yi know how to kill Teacher Dude with an overdose of medicine, unless she's medically trained? And.. how could she stand doing this to her friend, even though she must have all these pent-up grievances, towards Teacher Dude?

So far, Show is holding up solidly, and I'm definitely curious to see how all this continues to unfold.

Next episode notes will be out on: Wednesday, 2 Mar 2022!
