Hey FreshMen,

If we make a fantasy visual novel, do you prefer a peaceful world with eventual conflicts (mostly positive vibe), or a world full of conflict and life-threatening danger (mostly grim vibe)?

If such a fantasy land were to exist, I believe that conflict would be inevitable. Might be going too far but a peaceful world might be possible but could take a long time like ours.

Conflict types alot of the time are very..... We'll have alot of concepts I don't like like rape, stealing(your women) murder and such like that so peaceful is for me haha

Medieval / fantasy is synonymous with conflict, having a peaceful time you’ll have to invent a conflict otherwise it will get a bit… boring But you can stave off the really gory / hard core violence they had back then… so less genocide and rape, More evil nobles scheming - think the Witcher 3 is a good example

I like when it starts out seemingly peaceful and harmonious, but then you discover it is only on the surface. When you scratch it you see it is far from the truth. The deeper you dig, the darker it gets, but everybody keeps telling you not to rock the boat. In the end you have to rely on a few friends, and together you solve the probem. Or do you? ...

Really both depending on the story line. No life is ever trouble free. As long as it does not go to the extreme.

If I want grim, I'll turn on the news. I prefer my games give me a break from that.

You could go for a negative peace, absence of war. I remember in Lord of the Rings Tolkien describes the rangers as rough men that fight evil and darkness less than a day's travel from the homes of men ignorant of what is done to protect their comfort. If this approach is taken it could divide the love interests into three broad groups: those who live ignorant peaceful mostly happy vibe lives (movie Rosie Cotton), those who know of the dangers but do not participate in the violence (book Arwen, book Rosie), and those who would partake in physically combating the evil (Eowyn and movie Arwen).
