As someone who also has the Halifax explosion wiki memorised (disaster and shipwreck wikipedia makes for great 3 a.m. reading) I'd like to mention one of the more depressing anecdotes that didn't come up on the podcast. A small settlement of the Mi'kmaq First Nation had existed for generations in the cove across the harbour from the explosion and it was almost totally obliterated by the blast and tsunami. Local racist colonials had been trying to get rid of the settlement for years and the explosion did the work for them, ensuring it would never be rebuilt. The Mi'kmaq who lived there had actually reached an agreement with the Government to resettle elsewhere, in order to escape harrassment. The resettlement had been scheduled for the week after the explosion.

the Halifax explosion is well known in Canada, I think people my age mostly know about it from this short https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rw-FbwmzPKo also: ben+theo episodes always have a wonderful energy to them, I assume because that's the one time ben and theo stop browsing the internet while they're recording
