Reading about all the prep and personal additions, I wouldn't call John Travoltas character in hairspray "mocking". If you were to ask me I'd say his level of investment is admirable.

it would have been so easy for John Travolta to just let the wigs carry his whole performance but god bless him he's really trying. his acting may not be very good but he's putting his whole heart into it and that really goes a long way toward making a bad movie very watchable
