Hey Gearheads!

I thought this would be an interesting (and hopefully less controversial) way to broach the topic of AI.  The technology itself is pretty fascinating and as VR enthusiasts I'm guessing some of you are all about the latest advances in technology as well.  So if you haven't heard about it, I wanted to let you know about ChatGPT.

What is ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is basically setup like chatroom with an AI.  You ask questions in natural language as you would another person and if capable, it'll provide you with an answer.  The most obvious limitations are that it's information only goes back to the end of 2021, so while it could know about an actor it wouldn't know about anything they starred in this year.  It also has limitations on adult-related content and anything it considers to be controversial or a crime.  So no political debates, no burglary tips and it won't write the lewd short stories I make for the weekly releases.  I enjoy coming up with those scenarios anyway, but having the AI fill in the gaps and/or flush out the story would be nice and leave me more time to work on the rest of the project or other projects.  For those of you that like those, it could take the story from a 2 paragraph intro into a proper short story.  The potential is there though and I can see myself finding a way to make it work, I've spent 1 day with the chatbot and I'm already getting close.

What can you do with ChatGPT?

Now that the restrictions are out of the way we can get to the good stuff.  I've only scratched the surface of what is possible, but I've already gotten some impressive results from the AI.  The most novel thing is it can re-write songs, basically making it Weird Al, lol.  I had it re-write Sojaboy Crank that to be about DBZ, so instead of Superman it's Super Saiyan, but all the other lyrics are changed to match the topic too.  Same thing with Gangsta Paradise to Anime Paradise.  At the bottom I'll add some examples of AI-generated content.

You can also get it to write very simple or very sophisticated code or check your code.  Following a youtube example, I had it write me the code for a batch file to open two programs at the same time.  Following that format, It could be tweaked to my workflow giving me more flexibility than setting the apps to open when turning on the computer.  It'll also explain how to use the code, which gets more helpful the more advanced you get with it.

Those are just the things I've messed with and it's just scratching the surface.  There are people trying and succeding at tricking the AI to break through it's safeguards to provide information on its restricted list, but it's being patched just as quickly as people are finding these exploits.  Which is impressive on both sides considering this version has been out for like a week (I believe).

How to try it out?

Accessing ChatGPT is super easy.  All you need is an OpenAI account.  One thing I don't like about creating an account is they make add a phone number for verification, so if that's an issue you might want to look for a way around that.  I've tried googling temp text message phone numbers for verification before and they don't usually work for me, but you could google one and give it a try first.  I just caved and gave my number to speed things up.

I know there is a lot of controversy surrounding AI and regardless of which side you fall on this isn't the place to start a debate about it, challenge its usefulness, etc.  This is just to let people about a new resource, who might not have heard about it before.  Open AI has a discord and they have one specifically for ChatGPT as well.  I'm sure there are people there as well as lots of other AI discord servers that would love to debate back and forth all day long, I'm just not one of them.  So I'm happy to answer any constructive questions or address any constructive comments, but I'll remove any others.  Hopefully, that won't be an issue, but you never know with these things.  If you do get the AI to make something cool or you and the AI put together something interesting, please share it.  You can drop it here, dm me or use the newly created AI channel on the VRA discord.

The first one is 100% AI.  The second one I didn't quite like what the AI came up with, so I could have re-rolled it, giving it different guidance or additional details, but I decided to just tweak it to my liking, which just shows how much of a headstart you can get this way.

Short Story

What I told the AI:
write a short story about a main character hanging out at a bar to blow off steam when he meets a beautiful woman who seduces him and gets him to fool around with her in the bathroom

As he walked into the dimly lit bar, Jack couldn't help but feel the weight of the world on his shoulders. He had been working long hours at the office and just needed a night out to blow off some steam. He ordered a drink at the bar and settled into a corner booth, letting the alcohol and the noise of the bar wash over him.

As he sipped his drink, he noticed a beautiful woman sitting alone at the bar. She caught his eye and gave him a seductive smile. Without hesitation, she walked over to his booth and slid in next to him.

"Hi, I'm Lily," she said, offering her hand.

"Jack," he replied, shaking her hand.

"So what brings you to this dive bar all by yourself?" she asked.

"Just needed to get out of the office for a bit," he replied, trying to play it cool.

"I know the feeling," she said with a wink. "Sometimes it's good to let loose and have a little fun."

Before he knew it, Lily was leading him by the hand to the bathroom in the back of the bar. She pushed him against the wall and kissed him deeply, her hands exploring his body.

In the heat of the moment, Jack forgot all about his stress and worries. He let himself be swept up in the passion of the moment and let Lily seduce him.

Afterwards, as they straightened their clothes and fixed their hair, Lily gave him a sly smile and whispered in his ear, "That was fun, let's do it again sometime."

Jack grinned and kissed her on the cheek. "I'd like that," he said.

As they walked back out into the bar, Jack couldn't help but feel a little bit lighter and more carefree. Maybe coming to the bar hadn't been such a bad idea after all.
