Hey everyone! In a previous announcement we mentioned we had a lot to share with you about the current and future development of VRCDN. Sadly, we have had to delay this post due to our schedules being busier than we expected. We will be bringing it to you as soon as possible!

We have two large changes we would like to share with you now to make sure you’re all prepared for them. In Q1 of 2023 we plan on deprecating relays and the old API endpoints.

Relays worked great! We saw a lot of people use them in ways we were not expecting! But, sadly, the relay concept as a whole is not viable. The RTMP protocol is not designed to work over long distances, and because we used them as “single point relays” we were unable to efficiently balance them between nodes, causing some unexpected instability on some nodes due to load. From now, we strongly recommend using your private streams as your relay between streamers and in Q1 we will be fully removing relays from our platform.

A while back we overhauled our API endpoints to make them more uniform and easier to use. We left our old schema in place, however in a deprecated state, so that any developers that used our API had plenty of time to update their apps. We have decided to remove the old endpoints in Q1 of 2023 from our public API. If you have still not updated your projects then please do so ASAP. You can find documentation on our new API here: https://api.vrcdn.live/api-docs

Our servers in US West have been on our minds recently as we have been receiving a few reports of instabilities, mainly to Twitch and to the rest of our network from US West. We are in the process of testing new hardware and provider in this region, we’re planning to move this to production within the next few days to see if we are able to resolve the issue.

That’s it for now, happy streaming!
