I am absolutely high maintenance. Low effort will not sustain me in friendships, family or partners. I require effort, time and care. If those things are not provided, I will not show up. And I would encourage everyone to have similar standards.

I’m not talking about money, I’m talking about generosity of spirit. I’m talking about caring, building your loved ones up and genuinely giving a shit. Relationships need maintenance. It’s not unconditional. The conditions are we show up, we care for each other and we share our time. I am high maintenance and I feel everyone should be too.

It really depends on how you define it. I think high maintenance isn't good as a concept since meanings shift. While high maintenance now could be viewed as basic stuff that should be done, it just means we need to shift our thinking about what is considered high maintenance and what is reasonable, healthy maintenance. I think healthy maintenance is what people should strive for. Everything is about finding a healthy balance.
