So, I cried in front of my dog trainer today.

I was overwhelmed, I was exhausted and the tears just came.

But... there was no shame, no awkwardness, no uncomfortable "oh, no".

This man just said "it's okay. We all cry. Let it out. You'll feel better."

Not to make everything about my dad (lol), but from being told "don't you dare fucking cry" to "it's okay. Let it out" - yeah, it was different.

I don't have a lot of positive history with older men, especially father figures, but I really, really appreciate this man. He's kind, he's amazing with my dogs and he's just decent.

We talk about mental health, life, ups and downs and to me it feels like he's an older man showing some form of paternal care for a younger woman. It's really, really nice. And I hope we all get more of these experiences.

Romance can be wonderful, but it's so life-affirming for someone to be kind to you just because. Not because they like you, or wanna have sex with you, or build a future together, but just because.

It's nice that your trainer has a heart, I'll always be sympathetic towards people who struggle.

I am glad you have a positive figure in your life. While its going to be a long haul, having such people around will make it easier.

I'm honestly glad you were able to experience some kindness without any ulterior motives. If anyone deserves it, it's you.

I will let you know I feel the same way, I'm exhausted and overwhelmed too. But for some reason I can't find a way to rest.

I had a Platonic relationship with a younger woman for three years. I learned alot from her and I feel like I'm a better person for knowing her. We bonded over music and movies and she became like a daughter to me.

This, this is important. I'm Asexual, and so Platonic or Romantic relationships are all that matter to me (definitely not Aromantic, I'm a massive sucker for a romance), and of the two, I find that I value being friends far higher than any title or other relationship status. Friendship is the truest and most powerful form of love, because its a basis for every other kind of love. At least in my experience.
