Yo, Teacups!

If you haven’t seen one of these posts before, this is just what it says on the tin - a recommendations post. Sometimes I get caught in a cycle of the same movies, books, activities, and whatever else. If you also suffer from this, I hope this small collection of recommendations can be of some help.

P.S. These are obviously just things I like and if you don’t like them too, then that’s absolutely a-okay ❤️

January is a new beginning for us all. So, let’s kick things off with some fresh media and ways to spend our downtime.

Movies:

The Lion King (1994):

My cliched, unmatched Disney movie. I loved this movie so much that as a kid I would only respond to my mom if she called me “Simba”.

I walked like a lion, I pretended to groom myself like a lion, and essentially just drove everyone insane with my hyper fixation. If you haven’t seen it, seen it a million times, it really doesn’t matter - its just a great watch. It’s the whole package: adventure, drama, an amazing score, romance, and a campy, closeted villian.

Please treat yourself to a good time.

Disclaimer: I will not be held responsible if any of you become furries. Technically, it’s the sequel that got me. Kovu made me do a double take. That’s all I’m saying.

Spirited (2022):

I don’t care what anyone says about this movie, I love it. It doesn’t take itself seriously, it knows it’s campy and ridiculous and rolls with it. A musical that swears and breaks the fourth wall is what I’m here for, damn it! I want nonsense, I want fun, I want Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell being Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell! This movie delivered! No arguments!

Charlie’s Angels & Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle (the 2000’s Movies):

Peak millennial cheese! Want to see impossibly skinny girls beat up guys four times their size?! Me too! Great music, nonsense humour, and ridiculously over-the-top fight scenes! Kick ass, kiss the bad guy, then laugh about it with your friends as you escape death once again :)

The Cat in the Hat (2003):

Fight me! FIGHT ME! YOU CANNOT TELL ME THIS ISN’T PEAK COMEDY!

Evolution (2001):

Want a movie to quote with your friends?! You need this! My siblings and I re-watched this to death growing up! If it gets brought up, we fight over who gets to say “THERE IS ALWAYS TIME FOR LUBRICANT!”. Improve your existence and watch it!

Activities:

Start Dating!

Oh, yes. We’re doing it!

Is it terrifying? Yes. Are we gonna use every excuse in the book not to do it? Absolutely! Will we regret it with every fibre of our being if we deny ourselves the possibility of finding true and meaningful romance? You bet your sweet ass, we will!

So, let’s be brave, bold and anything else that’ll get us out the door and onto the market. Please, please, please, for the love of something you believe in - don’t keep making excuses.

If you don’t wanna be in a relationship, that’s absolutely valid and your choice. But if you’re just not doing it because you’re scared, I really do think you’ll regret not pushing yourself. By the way, I say none of this with any sense of superiority - I’m a fucking moron at the best of times, nevermind when it comes to dating. I just know that letting fear get in the way of what you really want sucks.

So, let’s not wait until we’re a perfect person - we’re never gonna be perfect. We have flaws, weird quirks, things that we find embarrassing about ourselves. But, thankfully, so does everybody else.

Write a Letter to Someone:

Totally not just saying this because I’m doing the penpal thing. I’ve heard there are lots of really amazing benefits to sitting down and tapping out your thoughts. Do it! Get the stamps!

Re-watch Your Favourite Anime:

I’m rewatching lucky Star as I type and my god it’s making me feel so calm. The pastels, the comforting characters, the slice-of-life goodness that tells my brain to chill - all so comfy and wonderful and just what I need.

So, go back, re-watch and let your brain be filled with happy chemicals.

Music:

Jaja Ding Dong - Will Ferrell, My Marianne

CUFF IT - Beyonce

Baby I’m Burnin’ - Dolly Parton

Cut to the Feeling - Carly Rae Jepsen

Hold Me Closer - Elton John, Britney Spears

Man! I Feel Like A Woman - Shania Twain

Good Afternoon - Ryan Reynolds, Will Ferrell

Feeling Good  - Michael Bublé

Are You Gonna Go My Way? - Lenny Kravitz

And that’s my humble offer, guys. Stay safe, drink water and get some rest.

All the best,

Tea

You probably hear it plenty, but thank you for being a positive force for good in the world

I really like 80s songs, I love the synth and there was a lot more to talk about back then.

May 2023 be the best for all of us

"I'll cut you and I'll make it look like a bloody accident!"- The Cat in the hat. Fakin love that movie.

I rewatch Toradora from time to time, it's my comfort anime. Any advice on the dating though? No idea where to start.

Richard Hardslab

I need to pull out Trigun, or The Irresponsible Captain Tylor, again. Also, I can fully agree on the "not dating regret" I'm in the twilight of my 30's and fully regret having been single all my life.

Start dating? Hmm I don’t know. Just don’t feel like I’m remotely capable as a partner as is. Need to make myself better before doing that.

I've been trying to get a girlfriend for months now, and no-one is interested. Dating apps suck, and in-person is hard when you don't have friends to get you out of the house to try new things. Anyone else had any luck? Also, does anyone here watch "The Quintessential Quintuplets", "The Helpful Fox Senko-San", or "Unbreakable Machine Doll"? The middle and latter are best dubbed, but the former is best un-dubbed.

I was born in '01, and the 90s stands out to me the most, but the 80s knew how to get you pumped up and motivated, so I'm with you there, Jeremy.

Start dating... I've been hurt in the past so much that I'm scared because I don't want to get hurt again. So much so that I've convinced myself I don't need a relationship. This is my reason which is, in and of itself, an excuse, to not try again. I'm so sorry.
