Sometimes I get caught in a cycle of the same movies, books, activities, and whatever else. If you also suffer from this, I hope this small collection of recommendations can be of some help.

P.S. These are obviously just things I like and if you don’t like them too, then that’s absolutely a-okay ❤️

✨TV Shows:✨

The Glory (2022):

When I tell you I’ve fallen down the K-drama rabbit hole, ladies, gentlemen, I scraped my knees all the way down and I’m not even mad. The Glory is a gut-wrenching and fist-pumping story all about a young woman exacting revenge against her high school bullies. It’s a refreshing take on vengeance. We’re often sold the idea that vengeance only leads to self-destruction, whereas The Glory offers a more nuanced and potentially more human examination of what it means to get even. People want justice and often times the law and even our loved ones fail us. It’s a truly exciting, dark and very satisfying story. Cannot recommend this enough. Also, the main heroin and villain are some of the best actors I’ve ever seen in Korean dramas. Equal parts engaging and terrifying.

Little Women (2022):

I told you the Korean dramas had me in a binge-chokehold. Little Women is the story of three sisters left to fend for themselves when their mother abandons them. Left alone, the sisters must use their skills to advance their positions at work, school and life. This is a charming story all about young people bringing themselves (and their siblings) up by their bootstraps. With adorable yet nuanced sibling dynamics, friendships that give you hope and slow-burn healthy romances. Highly recommend it if you’re looking for something more domestic and comfy.

Mr Queen (2020):

A talented but arrogant chef wakes up to discover himself in the body of Queen Cheorin in the Joseon period. Ridiculous, adorable, and most importantly - completely uninterested in staying within the realms of reality. Something I adore about Korean tv shows is that they’re never afraid to sacrifice believability for entertainment. It’s unique, fun and honestly just something a little different.

Books:

Fruits Basket Another:

The sequel to the ‘Fruits Basket’ manga, this story keeps in-line with its predecessor in the most fundamental of ways… being that it RIPS YOUR FUCKING HEART OUT OF YOUR CHEST AND MAKES YOU SAY THANK YOU FOR DOING IT! Adorable, tragic, wholesome and destined to stay with you after you’ve finished it. Please give this charming manga a chance.

Dangerous Convenience Store:

A gay love story that is equal parts stupid and tender. Eui-joon (a poor student) works part-time at a strange a convenience store. The reason it’s strange being that it’s mostly patronised by mobsters and hoodlums. But things soon go from shady to steamy when the tall, dark and scary Gunwoo begins to frequent the store (just to see Eui-joon). Whilst pleasantly predictable, I really appreciate how communicative this couple is, especially by Manhwa/manga standards. Whilst they do hook-up fairly quickly, the romance is a delicious slow-burn where the two men try their best to own up to their fears and insecurities. Highly recommend!
