Hello everyone!

I'm writing a FAQ so that we can all be on the same page here. It's been long overdue, to be honest, so I'm glad to be able to sit down and clear up the rules for my Patreon.

This would be the first run of the post as I'm trying to get it out as soon as I can. If you find that I should add something to the FAQ, feel free to comment as such in the comments below! I'll most likely add some updates to the questions asked and   With that in mind, here are the FAQs and Guidelines!

✨ Commenting Guidelines ✨
- Avoid commenting suggestions unless I ask for them.
- Avoid questioning the characters' sexuality or gender. Short answer is, gender and sexuality are different and personal for different people. Long answer should be available in this FAQ in the characters section.
- Avoid asking why I draw certain characters/pairings more than others. I have my own biases towards my own characters.
- Avoid asking questions about my personal life.
- Comments that make me uncomfortable will be removed.
- If the same person has made me uncomfortable through multiple comments, then I reserve the right to have them blocked from my Patreon.

✨ Character FAQs ✨

The ambiguous characterization in the main Webtoon is done on purpose--it's so that people can headcanon them into anything, or insert themselves into these characters. I think it makes them a lot more fun and allows for more flexibility! Please treat the following character FAQs as canon ONLY to the Patreon content, and not the main comic in general. ALSO... Since I make up Boyfriends as I go along, some info may or may not change in the future.

✨ Goth (BF)'s transition?
He started binding around middle school-high school (he's already binding as shown in a flashback in episode 130). Just before the comic of Boyfriends started, he had top surgery and he was shown wearing compression binders in episode 6. He's not planning on taking T or getting bottom surgery anytime soon.

✨ Goth (BF)'s asexuality?
I'll try to explain as best as I can, so I apologize if I don't get it across clearly enough. Goth has a very low libido and low sexual attraction. He prefers giving because he does not have any wants, sexually. He sees sexual engagement with his partners as a way to spend time with them.

While not too interested in sex itself, Goth is very into kinks (especially dominating). That's why he likes to be the controlling force in the bedroom. As for whether or not that gets him off, it's irrelevant--he's not looking for sexual gratification, he is just chasing that "controlling" high. To him, it empowers his masculinity.

I hope that's clear enough, but feel free to ask additional questions about this that I might've missed in this post!

✨ Nerd (BF)'s gender?

At this point in the comic, he still identifies as a boy. However, around the later parts of season 2, he starts to have some gender feelings. Since he's still trying to figure himself out, he's unlabeled and is trying out other pronouns.

✨ How are the characters' pasts/families like? I'd like to explore this more in the future, perhaps it can be a side story/SFW bonus comics, especially about their past and how they came to find out their sexuality! As for families, we've seen Jock and Nerd's families, and I plan to bring in Prep's family for season 3. Goth's family is estranged from him and I don't plan on having them in the comic besides flashbacks.

META Questions

✨ Where does the comic take place? I've never thought of a specific place in mind when making Boyfriends. I've drawn several inspirations from my immediate experience (Indonesia, UK) and media I consumed (America, Japan), so it's probably a combination of multiple places. My go-to answer is that the story is set on Jupiter.

✨ Any particular media that inspires Boyfriends? Scott Pilgrim, Nichijou, Ouran High School Host Club, Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun, Game Grumps. There are a lot of inspirations that come unconsciously (ex.: Grumps influenced my humor, so it naturally seeps in a little into what I write), so there might be stuff aside from these that I didn't even realize!

✨ How did you come up with Boyfriends/the story? It wasn't a big decision to make the comic in the first place. I first made the characters just smooching, and out of nowhere I just doodled a silly comic of them (which ended up being Episode 1). At the time, I was working on something else, so Boyfriends was kind of a break from work, something fun and low effort. At some point, I was able to support myself by making these comics, so I quit my job and decide to make it full-time and put out more effort into making them.   As for the story, there isn't really much of a "plot"--I just have this set of characters with different base personalities, and I put them in different basic situations. Their personalities and dynamics with other characters practically determine how the episodes go.

✨ Do you have an official Discord server? We do have one, but it's exclusively for emotes only. There are no chatting channels in the server. You should be able to access the server as soon as you sign up for any tier in my Patreon.

✨ Are fanarts okay? Yes, I welcome any fanart, SFW or NSFW. However, I prohibit any fanart that contains offensive intent/imagery. Other than that, feel free to draw the boys and the girls however you want, the hashtag for fanart is #BoyfriendsFanart (on Twitter/Instagram)! We check the tag twice a week.

✨ How many seasons of Boyfriends will there be? Season 1 ran from episodes 1-100, Season 2 will run from episodes 101-200, and... I'm planning for a shorter season for Season 3. Since I'm making the episodes up as I go, so I'm not sure how many episodes there will be in the end, but I don't plan on going further than Season 3

✨ Are your commissions open? No. I'm not opening them anytime soon either. I should be available for professional projects, but unfortunately I can't take personal commissions.

EDIT: Changed Jock GF's sexuality to Pansexual.

know this isn't the point of this, but just wanted to say how grateful i am to have ace rep like how you write it!! i'm on the ace spectrum and explaining it to people is always hard, especially when they want to draw a hard line in the sand about what being ace means. i love that you express goth's sexuality the way you do, it makes me so happy to see a genuine expression of asexuality portrayed so well, especially in a published series!

I just realized something and I'm curious, that's why I'm going to ask it: have you thought about doing nsfw of girlfriends? 👁👄👁
