Writing journal (Patreon)

Thought I'd try giving some updates on my whole writing journey on here. Me, I'm not usually too interested in the inside baseball stuff, but I'm told I'm unusual, and I don't want to lock all this stuff up in the Discord server.

I've got this Punisher story with five thousand words to it so far, a few chapters queued. The opening's figured out, but recently I've gotten the rest of it outlined. With these longfics, I always aim for 60,000 words, which is around a 200 page paperback. Long enough to be substantial, but short enough not to overstay its welcome. I think I've got just enough incidents planned that the storyline as a whole will have plenty of sex and violence, but still leave one wanting more. I'm planning to do a deep dive on vigilante man media, really get my head in the game, but for now I'm pretty busy with other obligations.

Something a bit more protean is this Supergirl story I'm doing, which is so AU I thankfully don't have to research it much. It's actually get a lot of fervor, which is nice. Shy of commissioning fics, the best way to encourage more work in your preferred OTP or fandom is to comment, Like, and rec the work that is being done. So, say what you will about Supercorp fandom, but at least they get that it's more satisfying to write in the expectation that you're going to get ten comments--even brief comments like "I love this" or "that was so emoji!"--than to feel like you're throwing your work out into a void.

Though I wonder how much of a gulf there is between the coomer side of fandom and the fangirl side of fandom.
